Rebranding from Pistachio Films to Content Lab

So… Why the rebrand?

When I started out wanting to make a video production business, I made sure not to overcomplicate the branding process - bear in mind this was over 6 years ago.

When you’re 11 years old and you talk to your best pals about starting a business, you all argue for hours over the business name, the logo and the colours. After said argument, the fun job is done, and the actual business side of the plan (or the business as a whole) fails to materialise.

I was keen to not let my dopamine receptors feel any sense of accomplishment from this stage of starting out, so that I would really knuckle down when it came to actual business operations, sales and marketing.

So I went with a black and white colour scheme, I chose a name that also started with the letter ‘P’ and Pistachio was the most fun (yet slightly luxury) word I could think of. I stuck said ‘P’ in the middle of a circle and I had both my name and my logo sorted. Simple.

So why did I change it to Content Lab?

Well firstly, Pistachio Films did sound like a fully fledged feature film production house, and really I was making CONTENT. But not just filming, I was producing great branded photography, but also motion graphics, animations, cinemagraphs - all sorts of content.

So I rebranded to Content Lab at the start of 2023, although I did it in catastrophically ineffective way and my SEO and search nose dived because of it - but that should soon be on the mend.

Content is for everyone, all businesses. I wanted to do what I said on the tin, or rather, I wanted the tin to say what I did.

I wanted the ‘Lab’ part to emphasise and element of ‘cutting edge’ content - but also, what do you do in a lab? Test.

I am a strong proponent of testing to develop both the best content and also best long term content strategies. Effectiveness of content is so specific not only to your industry, but to busiensses themslves and all the way down to the employees of your business. You need to try different things that are novel and haven’t been done before with your marketing. Marketing is a tool to build brand awareness and start the sales process, if you want to do what has done before you’re going to really soften the blow of your marketing straight off the bat.

You want a framework that is built off proven strategies, sure. But every single business is different, customers react completely differently from Business to Business, even in the same niche. This is a philosophy that is integral to my content creation process, and has become a PROVEN framework to enable me to get the best results for my clients.

Hence, the Content Lab.
